Yes. The Free plan costs nothing and needs no credit card, and it has no trial period or time limit.
It covers writing on your own or with one co-author: 1 collaborator per project, and 50 MB per project and 200 MB across your projects.
No. TeXType runs in any modern browser. Documents compile on our servers with the full TeX Live distribution, so there is nothing to set up.
Sign in on the home page with Google, GitHub or Microsoft, and your account is made. There is no password to create.
Yes. Upload its files, or drag in a whole folder with its subfolders, and TeXType suggests which file is the main document. A .zip file is not unpacked yet, so unzip it first.
Almost certainly. The compiler has the full TeX Live 2026, including classes such as revtex, acmart, IEEEtran and elsarticle, with pdfLaTeX, XeLaTeX and LuaLaTeX. Upload the template’s files and compile.
Unlimited collaborators; 200 MB per project and 1 GB across your projects; no plan limit on how often you compile, first place in the queue when the compiler is busy, and compiles of up to 120 seconds; restoring any version, however old; and sync with GitHub and GitLab.
Everything else, from comments and suggestions to the full history of every project, is in both plans. The pricing page compares them in full.
$7 a month, or $84 a year, plus any sales tax or VAT. Prices are in US dollars.
Until November 1, 2026, a first subscription costs $60 for its first year, or $5 a month for its first 12 months, with the fall discount.
A first Pro subscription started by the end of November 1, 2026 (Eastern time) costs $60 for its first year, or $5 a month for its first 12 months. After that it renews at the regular price, $84 a year or $7 a month.
It is once per person, for a first subscription.
Yes. Pro is paid in advance, by the month or the year, and renews at the end of each until you cancel. Before every yearly renewal we email you at least a week ahead, with the date and the amount.
At any time, from your account page (“Manage billing”). Cancelling stops the next renewal; Pro lasts to the end of the month or year you have paid for, and your account then moves to Free.
Nothing is lost. Projects, files and their whole history stay. Only growing past the Free limits stops: adding more collaborators than Free allows, for example, or uploading past its storage. Sync with GitHub and GitLab pauses, with its settings kept.
On Free, versions from the last 30 days can be restored; older ones can still be viewed and compared.
Yes. Write to [email protected] within 14 days of your first payment for Pro and it is refunded in full. A refund of a first payment is once per person; renewals are not refunded.
Pro is sold through Link, Stripe’s payment service, which takes the payment, adds any sales tax or VAT, and sends your receipts. Your card statement shows LINK.COM* TEXTYPE. Card details go to Stripe and never reach us.
What you pay for is fixed for the month or year you have paid for. A change to a plan or its price applies only from a later renewal, and we email you at least a week before it does, so you can cancel first if you prefer.
On Free, 1 collaborator besides you; on Pro, as many as you like. Everyone can be an owner, an editor or a viewer.
No. A project follows its owner’s plan: in a project you own on Pro, everyone works with Pro’s limits, whatever their own plan.
Yes, on both plans. Comment on any passage, with replies and @mentions, and switch to Suggesting to propose edits that the others accept or reject, like track changes.
Invite people by email, or send an invite link for editing or for viewing only. Links last 30 days and can be revoked, and whoever opens one signs in first.
Yes, on both plans. Every save is a commit in the project’s own git repository, credited to its author. Compare any two versions as highlighted text or as a marked-up PDF (latexdiff), and name the ones that matter.
Restoring a version makes it the newest one, so nothing is ever overwritten. Pro can restore any version, however old; Free, those from the last 30 days.
Yes, on Pro. Each save can be pushed to your repository automatically, and changes made there can be pulled back in. Other git hosts work too, by pasting the repository’s https address with an access token.
Yes, at any time on both plans: the PDF, or the whole project as a .zip file.
Keep typing. What you write is kept in your browser and sent when the connection comes back. If someone else changed the same file meanwhile, your version is saved beside it, so nothing is lost.
No. TeXType has no AI features, and your work is never used to train AI.
Only the people you share a project with. We look at a document only when it is needed to keep TeXType running or to answer a problem you ask us about, as the Privacy Policy explains.
In the United States. Backups are encrypted and kept off-site. The Security page lists every protection in place.
From your account page, confirmed by typing your email address. It cancels any subscription and deletes the projects you own; a project you share ownership of passes to the other owner.
