Reviewing in TeXType: comments and suggestions
Last updated October 22, 2026
In TeXType, co-authors review a paper in its LaTeX source, where it is written. They comment on passages and make suggestions (like tracked changes) that someone accepts or rejects. This guide shows each step.
Comment on a passage
Select a passage in the source. A Comment button appears just below it; click it, write, and press Comment. Ctrl+Alt+M (⌘⌥M on a Mac) and Comment in the right-click menu do the same.
Type @ and a name to mention someone in the project: it shows as new for them. Each comment is a card in the review panel, where anyone in it can reply, and you can edit or delete what you wrote.
Suggest a change
Switch the mode at the top of the editor from Editing to Suggesting, then type as usual. What you delete is struck through and what you add is underlined, in your color; nothing changes in the paper until someone accepts it. TeXType remembers the mode for each project in this browser.
- Strike out a word and type its replacement: that is one suggestion, a replacement, not two.
- A removed or added line break shows as a pilcrow (¶), so it can be seen and decided like any other change.
- To change a suggestion of yours, type inside it, or select over it and type again; it stays one suggestion.
- Suggest a change in the right-click menu proposes an edit to the selected text, whichever mode you are in.
Accept or reject
Put the cursor in a suggestion, or click its card. A small pill appears beside it with Accept, Reject and Edit. Accepting puts the change into the text; rejecting leaves the text as it was. Edit opens its card, to add a note or reply.
A deletion and the insertion that replaces it are one card, and are decided together. A suggestion an AI app made is marked AI on its pill and labeled AI-assisted, with the app’s name, on its card, where the app’s reason and any warnings are (the guide to AI tools).
The review panel
The Comments button opens the review panel. Open comments and suggestions are listed in the order their passages come in the document, the open file first. What is new since you last looked is marked, and a number on the button counts what involves you: a mention, a reply in your thread, a decision on your suggestion.
- Click a card to select its passage in the text; the card quotes the passage it is about.
- Double-click a commented or suggested passage in the text, or press Ctrl+Alt+J (⌘⌥J on a Mac) with the cursor in it, to bring its card into view.
- A new comment on a passage between two others is written in its place among them.
Archive, and what comes back
Archive on a card puts it out of the way once it has been dealt with; decided suggestions go there too. The archived cards are counted at the end of the list: open them to Restore a comment, Reopen a suggestion that was decided, or, for what you wrote, Delete for good, which asks first.
Undo
Accepted, rejected or archived something by mistake? Ctrl+Z (⌘Z on a Mac) takes back what you just did, and so does Undo in the notice that confirms it. It undoes only your own decisions, never someone else’s made since. Earlier versions of the text are also kept in History.
Share the review outside the project
For a reader outside the project, Review… in the Download menu gives the PDF with every comment and suggestion marked on its words and numbered, and a list of them all at the end, each beside its lines of the page. It can also give the list alone, as a PDF or as text.
Who can do what
- Owners and editors comment, reply, suggest, and accept or reject suggestions, on both plans.
- Viewers read the paper and its review, but do not comment or decide.
- Only the author of a suggestion can change its wording, and only the writer of a comment can edit it.
